As we know, the casting molding lines are roughly divided into horizontal line and vertical line. The horizontal line mainly produces big size castings, the vertical line usually produces small size castings, such as Auto part castings. 
Since vertical molding line can produce much more castings than the horizontal on quantity and these small size castings should be degated in the shortest time. So degating efficiency, inserting convenience would be the key factors when end user is choosing the degating tools for vertical molding line. And separating efficiency and inserting convenience are usually determined by inserting way of wedge, since wedge's no-load speed of different brands has no big difference. 
 
According to the structure of most wedges currently on the market, the insertion method of the wedge is mainly horizontal, because should keep enough space for the central wedge to protrude, otherwise, it will be retracted without being separated. 
Therefore, if the horizontal insertion separation method is adopted, it is necessary to artificially spend time to adjust the position of the casting, and sometimes even needs to hold the casting by hand during separating. This operation will waste a lot of time, and some risers are not easy to break, because there is no room for the central wedge to extend.
